External appearance is important to finish, but I think that more important subject is how to make them for completed finishing. I am not idealist, but I look directly my work into real world how to communicate with people. Also, my work plan seems to close application in architectual design, but I am not always getting ideas from architecture. Our society is composed of invisible moral standard and systematization while human body is consisted of atoms. It is possible that my work comply with industrial standard system to finish entire process. It imply that getting specialization and uniformity, and the real world is involed into fuctional role in artwork. Back to progress which I work, those all in complexed situation apply to my projects.
I have been working with the subject in last solo shows since 2005. Art pieces is clear distinction from product in terms of fultional way. Product have pratical use, while main role of art pieces are just ART itself. Among other lots of funtions, I continue to find out the fact is refleced in my new projects with new media in future.

내 작업의 결과물은 ‘제품’이라는 말로 요약될 수 있다. 내 작품에서 제품 같은 외관은 매우 중요하다. 그러나 더 중요한 것은 어떻게 만들어지냐는 것이다. 인간의 몸이 원자로 구성 된다면, 사회는 눈에 보이지 않는 규범과 체계들로 조직화된다. 작업이 정교하게 가공된 부품들이 조립되어 완성될 수 있는 것은 설계단계부터 완성까지 산업 규격 체계를 따르기 때문에 가능하다. 이 것은 점점 더 분업화되고 획일화되는 물질세계를 대변하는 것이며, 현실세계의 구조가 작품에 기능적으로 개입된 것이다. 결국 내가 작업을 한다는 것은 동시대의 사회적 구조가 작품에 투영되는 과정이다.
작품은 기능면에서 제품과 극명하게 구별 된다. 제품은 실용성을 가지고 있는 반면 작품은 예술로서의 역할을 해야 한다. 나는 작품을 통해 끊임없이 변해가는 동시대의 구조와 체계를 지속적으로 반영하고자 한다. 수 많은 기능으로 속이 가득 채워진 작품을 만들기 위해 구조 뿐만아니라 동적인 기능을 수행 할 뉴 미디어의 적극적 활용을 진행하고 있다.

Sound is just part of my work. I think that making sound is not important rather than making process.In recent my works, electronic components make vibration through frequency modulation. This vibrations is fundamental cause of sound in my works. What I want to put them together is, by metaphorical expression, it seems comparable in between; humankind pursue their desire constantly and non material sound creates in materials. 소리가 난다는 것보다 소리가 만들어지는 과정이 중요하다. 여러가지 기능들이 계획에 의해 배열되었을 때 새로운 기능을 한다. 최근 조각 작품의 경우 작품 내부에서는 전자부품들이 전자기판에 집적화되어 전기적 진동을 만들어 낸다. 이 진동이 소리를 생성하는 것이다. 바로 주파수 변조(frequency modulation)이다. 물질 속에서 비물질적인 소리가 생성되는 것은 사회적 구조속에서 끊임 없이 추구되는 인류의 욕망와 같다. 판타지이다.

Assembled Fantasy, a Fantasy of Desire
My artwork begins with an assumption that “mankind is in continuous pursuit of new desires.” All kinds of desires are exaggerated, minimized, and deleted in order to achieve a pre-established goal. And the more these desires gather together, the larger and more complicated the constructed being becomes. Thus, this is the constructed fantasy, a fantasy of desire, and a fantasy of our time.
Silent propagation process of flowers, from a stamen to pollen, and to a pistil, is similar to the formation of continuously sought-after desires of today. This propagation process of flowers is the basic frame for my installation work, “Their Flowers” series. These are sound-interactive artworks that abstract linguistic significances.
“Assembled Fantasy,” a quiet propagation is expressed in my delicate artwork pieces. Each piece is finely sculpted by a lathe, and then assembled accordingly based on a blueprint; it is a birth of another fantasy.
